Awareness Day

Committee

The International Mastocytosis & Mast Cell Diseases Awareness Day Committee comprises non-profit mast cell disease support and/or affiliated advocacy groups from around the world, with one group invited to represent each country. Each organisation nominates two representatives to serve on the Committee.

The Committee was established by founding Awareness Day coordinator Mercedes Martin from La Asociación Española de Mastocitosis y Enfermedades Relacionadas.

The Committee operates under a formal constitution and is managed by one or two coordinators. Our current coordinator is Kristin Sinclair from The Australasian Mastocytosis Society.

The Awareness Day was established in 2018 through the collaborative decision of 24 founding advocacy groups. Since then, the Committee has continued to grow, reflecting the expanding global effort to raise awareness, improve care and support those affected by mast cell diseases worldwide.

Meet our committee members.

The Australasian Mastocytosis Society (TAMS) provides advocacy, education, research and support for those throughout Australasia who suffer from or care for those with mast cell activation disorders (MCAD) including mastocytosis and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS).

TAMS was established due to the overwhelming need for sufferers and their supporters to find a local voice and active support network.

TAMS is an independent not-for-profit incorporated organisation with a committed and functional volunteer committee of individuals.

TAMS’ was founded in 2012, when its founding members acted upon their desire for support, education, research and advocacy within Australasia for mastocytosis (and later mast cell activation disorder) patients, and established TAMS.

Mastocytosis Society Canada (MSC)

Mastocytosis Society Canada (MSC) was created to assist patients, caregivers and health care professionals in learning more about mast cell diseases and to lean on each other for support. The audience we support is quite diverse and includes:

  • Patients with a diagnosis.
  • Patients in search of a diagnosis.
  • Caregivers of young children or elderly parents with mast cell concerns.
  • Health care professionals whom are trying to provide the best health care they can provide to their mast cell patients.

There seems to be a growing number of patients diagnosed with mast cell diseases such as Mastocytosis and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). MSC is here to support these patients by:

  • Aiding in interpreting the facts about mast cell diseases, triggers and symptoms many patients experience.
  • Helping to find a health care professional with knowledge and experience with mast cell diseases in close proximity to their location.
  • Providing patients with information on diagnostic testing, medications and additional questions to ask their health care professionals.
  • Suggesting ways to improve their quality of life through diet, eliminating triggers and managing their environment.
  • Creating educational curriculums for patients and health care professionals to assist in educating and raising awareness of mast cell disorders; speeding up the time needed for a diagnosis and to improve a patient’s quality of life.

Please visit mastocytosis.ca to learn more on how we can support you on your healthcare journey.

Associazione italiana mastocitosis (ASIMAS)

Associazione Italiana Mastocitosis (ASIMAS)

  • assistenza sociale;
  • assistenza sanitaria;
  • culturale;

  1. sostegno ai soci affetti dalla mastocitosi pigmentosa o sistemica;

Masto Kids

MastoKids

MastoKids is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization whose mission is to support children with mastocytosis and their families by providing an empowering environment that promotes awareness, education, and research into pediatric mastocytosis. Our goal is to provide a place where families of children with mastocytosis can learn, find support, and work together to find solutions for the daily challenges caused by this disorder.

MastoKids started in 2002 when five families from across the world, connected by an online email support group, decided to create a website to answer the common questions that regularly arose about pediatric mastocytosis. The idea quickly grew into a charity that worked to raise awareness, provide support and information, and encourage research into this disorder.

Today, MastoKids maintains an active website (Mastokids.org) that includes information on common reaction triggers, medical procedures, and personalized education plans. We have an active member-only support group on Facebook. Our membership community and basic information about mastocytosis are often a family’s first links to understanding the unique nature and needs of the disorder.

MastoKids has seen exciting growth from the early days when those five families worked to establish this important resource. Over the years, MastoKids has served to improve the lives and outlooks of hundreds of families affected by pediatric mastocystosis. We pledge to continue this service for our special children and others like them around the world.

Mast Cell NZ

Mast Cell NZ

In 2014, disappointed by the lack of a central, NZ-specific MCAD organisation, a handful of us started a Facebook group to bridge the gap. Soon after we began a campaign to bring overseas knowledge to our top doctors and NZ patients. Thus began the “Fight Mast Cell Disease: Lecture Tour 2015. New Insights for New Zealand’s Chronically Ill by World-Class Expert on Mast Cell Disease, Dr Lawrence Afrin.” Dr Afrin’s visit planted a marvellous seed that continues to blossom across our land today.  Currently we support patients with mastocytosis, MCAS, Hereditary alpha Tryptasemia and co-morbidities.

In 2015 Co-chairs Cynthia Knight, BSc. and Jo Reid, RN, organised a Charitable Trust (#CC51934) called the Mastocytosis Network of New Zealand as namesake of the late Nancy Gould, R.N. Years before she’d run a small group of the same name. Nancy was a pivotal and vocal advocate within NZ and the International mast cell community until she passed away in 2012. Throughout various name changes (currently New Zealand Foundation for Mast Cell Activation Disorders) our goals have stayed roughly the same: To provide high quality educational opportunities for medical professionals; and health promotion, advocacy and support for patients whilst linking them with knowledgeable mast cell friendly doctors in their region. We also collaborate with New Zealand Rare Disorders and Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes New Zealand. Mast Cell NZ is an inclusive, warm and growing support group strongly emphasising a patient-centred, resource rich organisation. We are hoping to get a web page back up and running soon but in the interim, you can find us on the Facebook page “Mast Cell NZ“.

The current co-chairs for the Foundation are Tania Bray and Michaela Wensley.

MCAS

Mastocytoza obejmuje grupę chorób charakteryzujących się patologicznym rozrostem mastocytów (komórek tucznych) w skórze, szpiku kostnym, wątrobie, śledzionie, węzłach chłonnych i innych organach.

Lavoriamo insieme a dermatologi/allergologi, ematologi e altri specialisti.
