“I’m unnoticed and I’m unmistakable.”
Unnoticeable. Unmistakable.
Living with masto since 3 weeks of age
Luca is 13 years old and loves football, lacrosse and spending time with his friends. But he has been living with mastocytosis since he was just three weeks old.
His symptoms have included hives, dizziness, a drop in heart rate and severe reactions requiring emergency treatment. During one episode at summer camp, Luca needed three doses of epinephrine before being rushed to hospital.
Today, Luca can attend school, play sports and enjoy activities that once triggered reactions. But managing his condition still means daily medication, weekly infusions and the challenges of living with an illness that others can’t always see.
For Luca, it’s also about the embarrassment of being pulled out of class for testing or needing to visit the school nurse.
