“We should never put limits to our happiness.”
Living with a rare disease can change how you see yourself and the world around you. For Nekane, learning to understand her mast cells has helped her move from fear and uncertainty towards greater confidence, acceptance and a renewed appreciation for life.
Unnoticeable. Unmistakable.
Finding happiness beyond the limitations
“It has been nine years since my diagnosis, and in that time, I have learned to know my mast cells. Before, there was only darkness, uncertainty and fear. Little by little, by listening to my body and understanding how it reacts, I was able to gain confidence and regain part of my life. Nothing will ever be as it was before, nor do I want it to be. Entering the world of a rare disease is a journey into a new reality. While we must accept our new limitations, we should never put limits to our happiness. We need more research, understanding, empathy and a lot of love. The international awareness day has raised recognition and visibility, while fostering a global support network.”
